Fairhaven’s trip to Old Rag
“The mountains are calling and I must go. ” John Muir
On Monday eleven of us hiked Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoah National Forest – two staff and nine students. Having spent many weekends in my youth with my father traversing the hills of Shenandoah, I held Old Rag in high esteem. The hike was just as I had remembered: beautiful fall foliage, challenging elevation gain, several rock scrambles, and an incredible scenic view. We ate lunch atop boulders and paused to take some pictures.
“We’re going back, right?” asked a student on the way down Old Rag. Everyone agreed.
The mountains are calling and we will return.
